Octavia Richmond is a remarkable woman who has dedicated her life to empowering underserved communities. She is the founder of Diamond in the Rough Inc, a non-profit organization that advocates for community support and education. Recently, Octavia became the new owner of Buttons and Threads thrift store, combining her passion for sustainable fashion with her commitment to community outreach. With over 15 years of experience in the public health field and a bachelor's degree in biology and master's degree in public health from St. Xavier University of Chicago IL, Octavia is a true inspiration.
About Diamond in the Rough, Inc.
Diamond in the Rough, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 by Octavia Richmond in Chicago, Illinois. Our mission is to empower individuals and strengthen communities. We are excited to announce our new initiative, Buttons and Threads. Looking ahead, one of our future goals is to establish a transitional housing program to provide safe and supportive housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, offering a steppingstone towards stability and independence. Our programs include youth development, workforce development, and social services. We are proud to have serviced over 250 youth from Chicago and Georgia, provided a transitional housing program for women from 2014-2017, achieved 90% youth summer job placement, and hosted 5 successful Back to School events.
